Never pump antilock brakes. Doing so can actually cause a loss of steering and braking control. Don't let up on the brake pedal. Even if you do have ABS. Try to keep a good distance from the vehicle infront of you, so if he brakes suddenly, it will still give you time to gradually stop or even lightly tapping your breaks until you stop. If you start sliding, turn wheel opposite to direction you seem to be heading with a little gas, if it doesn't seem like your gonna have time to stop, quickly look to your left or right blind spots and accelerate if clear, that would be your escape route to a catastophie waiting to happen.
