How much does it damage a car if you hit the divider while driving?

euphory asked:

While driving, I was guilty of being distracted for a few seconds, and I slightly hit the cement street divider on the left front wheel (of my brother’s car!).

Will there be much damage on the suspension or anything else? I checked the front wheel and the tire was a little scuffed on one side; some pieces were sticking off of it. I’m not sure if those were there before.
My brother might notice the scratched sides, but they already were like that.

Thanks for your help!

It all depends on how hard you hit it! You very easily could have at the very least knocked it out of alignment.

You might want to check the tire rim for dents. Also, if you see a bulge in the tire? You might want to get that replaced. You broke the steel belt inside. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to check the alignment to.

It all depends on how hard you hit it, how fast you were going and at what angle you hit it at. It will also cost a fair bit if you really damage the motor. another thing to consider is what type of car it is and if parts are hard to find.
