Cars to Drive Themselves

by Vic Hurlstorm on August 19, 2009

Cars are becoming a lot more advanced them they previously were. The difference between getting in a car in 1991 and then getting in new cars in 2009 is absolutely amazing. We now have satellite navigation systems, which can track exactly where we are, entertainment systems throughout the vehicles and cruise control.

But cars are developing at enormous speeds and experts have predicted that within the next decade cars could actually drive themselves. At this moment in time you are most likely thinking that this is something that can only be seen in movies, but I can guarantee you that if you look at the technology that is behind this then you will surely see that we are close to it.

As mentioned above we already have satellite navigation systems which are able to locate precisley where you are and the speed that you are going at. With the growth of the internet also reaching unprecedented levels there is not long left until vehicles begin to actually communicate with each other online.

What I am trying to say is that the satellite navigation system will check your speed and whereabouts you are on the road, which will then send the information instantly over the internet, which will in turn send the information to any other cars that are next to you. By knowing the speed you are driving at, the vehicles themselves will be able to avoid collisions and they can take us to our destination without getting lost because they know exactly where they are going.

So literally for a huge amount of lorry drivers it could be a dream come true as they could sleep until the vehicle reaches its destination. In some ways it work a lot like an autopilot system.
